The delicate 1950s glass bird and asymmetrical vase, made at the contemporary 3rd Degree Glass Studio in St. Louis, are balanced on a 42-inch-high base, constructed from two repurposed bowls and a tall vase. This cairn is dwarfed by the 9-foot concrete structures and some of the 5 gallon buckets of tar used to join them. This man-made concrete tunnel will bury a creek and channel runoff from one large shopping mall, under the surface of a new, even larger commercial and residential project. Storm water from all these roofs and parking lots will gush into the remnants of a natural stream here in Shiloh, Illinois.
