ABOUT THIS WATERSHED
Poised on a discarded car tire, this Cairn was created to contain a snail shell found in this wetland. Wetlands are the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems on the planet and the most threatened by environmental damage. The white foam on the water’s surface is not snow or ice, but millions of tiny gas bubbles, the result of dead leaves, stems, and other organic matter decomposing as the spring sun warms the shallow, marshy water.
Created during a Six Mile Sculpture Works Artists’ Residency, Alfresco Productions, Granite City, Illinois.
