The Land and Water cairn rests in manmade rock arch at the base of a natural cliff in Mississippi Palisades State Park, a partially conserved section of the Mississippi River Palisades, a National Natural Landmark. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, palisades is the name for a “fence of stakes especially for defense,” or “a long strong stake pointed at the top and set close with others as a defense,” or when the P is capitalized, “a line of bold cliffs.” https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/Parks/Pages/MississippiPalisades.aspx
