Trails lead alongside the river, downstream from Minnehaha Falls to this stone bridge where the Big Blue cairn stands sentinel. In the 1885 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem The Song of Hiawatha, the hero carries his bride, Minnehaha, through the waters of many rivers to his village.
