ROCK RIVER GLOW
Black Hawk State Historic Site, Rock Island, Illinois—October 2017

Elevation 550 feet
In this image, parts of the Blue Buoy and the Big Blue cairns that first appeared at the headwaters of the Mississippi were combined with the newer Summoning Clouds cairn on the Rock River. This site is less than 3 miles from where the Rock River becomes part of the Mississippi River. The setting sun at the Blackhawk State Historic Site in the Black Hawk State Forest illuminates this cairn, turning it into a beacon of light at the water’s edge.
